Some poetry

Nerdy poetry

A poem by a one-time Stanford Econ Ph.D:
Sit, drink your coffee here; your work can wait awhile.
You're twenty-six twenty-seven twenty-eight twenty-nine thirty, and still have some life ahead.
No need for wit; just talk vacuities, and I'll
Reciprocate in kind, or laugh at you instead.

The world is too opaque, distressing and profound.
This twenty minutes' rendezvous will make my day:
To sit here in the sun, with grackles all around,
Staring with beady eyes, and you two feet away.

A poem by Lipman Bers:
... mathematics is very much like poetry ... what makes a good poem - a great poem - is that there is a large amount of thought expressed in very few words. In this sense formulas like $$ e^{i \pi} + 1 = 0 $$ or $$ \int_{-\infty}^{\infty} e^{-x^2} dx = \sqrt{\pi} $$ are poems.
